In every corner of the three floors, you still feel the spirit of George Whitman, who opened the place and took in a number of writers and artists, such as Allen Ginsberg and Henry Miller. Those who came shared meals and slept in the tiny writers’ room. Whitman called this his “social utopia.” It’s still is a magnet for both writers and readers today.
