WHAT IS CELLULITE?
The unevenness on women's legs is as widespread as it is unwanted. 80 to 90 percent of all women have a genetic predisposition towards it. Sport and healthy nutrition are important factors, but even slim and sporty women get cellulite. Scientists say that this is due to genetics and the resulting properties of female connective tissue.
TYPICAL FOR WOMEN
Due to their hormonal composition and the structure of their skin, most men do not have a problem with cellulite. A woman's dermis and epidermis are thinner than those of a man, the layer of fat on her thighs, stomach and knees is more prominent, and her fat cells larger. The latter are only held together loosely by the body's connective tissue, and push through to the outside. This is what causes that typical "orange peel" texture. Women's connective tissue is structured in this way to allow it to stretch during pregnancy.
CELLULITE IS EVEN COMMON AMONG SLIM AND SPORTY WOMEN, BUT RARE AMONG MEN.
THIS IS DUE TO THE DIFFERENCE IN SKIN STRUCTURE.
